About the society

Thirty years on — still chasing par, still chasing the cart.

Pro Hackers is a Hong Kong golf society with its roots in the city’s aviation industry. Three decades, thirty named tours, and a ridiculous number of lost golf balls later, the beer is still cold and the company is why we keep coming back.

How it started

Pro Hackers began more than 30 years ago with a small group of colleagues from Hong Kong’s flag carrier and its premier aircraft maintenance provider — engineers who shared an affection for the game, and the camaraderie that comes with chasing it together.

What started as a weekend fixture grew into a proper society. Monthly rounds became annual tours. Annual tours acquired names, themes, and trophies. The society picked up members from across the industry — engineers, flight crew, managers, service providers, suppliers, ATC — and the original crew never quite left. Member 001 just had the duck tattooed on his back.

Originally hackers. Now… still hackers. Mostly.

What we do

We get together for year-round events around the world. Annual Tours get a new name, a theme, sometimes a trophy, and at least one story the committee disavows all knowledge of.

On tour the golf is competitive. Off the course it’s social, noisy, and occasionally tactical. Ladies have their shopping trips and the guys have the Hackers golf events.

Who can join

Pro Hackers is open to HE/HIM/BLOKE/GUY’s working in Hong Kong’s aviation-related industries — airlines, MRO, airport operations, ground handling, ATC, and the rest of the ecosystem. Sorry WAGs — you have shopping trips with the girls. If that describes you or someone you know, let us know and we will review your application.

Membership runs through the committee. New applications are reviewed on a rolling basis — introductions from an existing member are normally required. A good handicap is not required. Enthusiasm and a sense of humour are!

The committee

The society is run by a volunteer committee of long-standing members who handle the calendar, the tour logistics, the handicaps, the trophies, and the occasional diplomatic crisis. We meet regularly, answer member questions, and generally try to make sure everyone gets a fair crack at the silverware.

Think you’d fit in?

Send your name, your company, and a sentence or two about yourself. The committee will be in touch.
